With many thanks to User:Husky some 250 historic images of birds of the Netherlands were donated to Commons earlier this month. The images come from the book Nederlandsche Vogelen (“Birds of the Netherlands”, 1770-1829) by Nozeman, Sepp and Houttuyn from the collection of the national library of The Netherlands.

 The images can be found in Category:Nederlandsche vogelen van Nozeman en Sepp

 For every bird the following names have been added

* Modern scientific name of bird depicted
* Modern English name of bird depicted
* Modern Dutch name of bird depicted
* Dutch name as mentioned in book
* Latin name as mentioned in book
* Items depicted on plate

Because of the Latin names all birds are in their corresponding categories, see or instance Alauda arvensis. We hope that the English and Latin names will help uptake on non-Dutch Wiki-projects.
