Hi Education folks,
I recently met a U.S. Boy Scout leader here in the U.S. I believe that I heard that a boy scout one earned a merit badge by way of Wikipedia contributions, so I mentioned this to the scout leader and encouraged him to follow up with me about the possibility of scouts creating or editing content on Wikipedia (and possibly Commons). Boy scouts are typically in grades 6 through 12, and are normally to ages 12 to 17. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with introducing Wikimedia in the middle school age group, because it sounds like this scout leader has scouts in his unit that are of that age. I am thinking that there might be an opportunity here to get at least one group of scouts involved with creating or editing Wikimedia content that is related to their scouting interests. For example, it might be nice if they would take photos of their outdoor activities and upload them to Commons, or write about wilderness skills and environmental conservation activities.
Thanks,
Pine

Hi Pine
It's already one year that we work with secondary school students in Armenia. The program is successfully run here. As for the students of their age it is difficult to edit on Wikipedia we have offered them to work on Wiktionary where editing is much easier. I don't know much about editing guidelines in English Wiktionary but I think it can be much easier to edit it than on Wikipedia. We have written a blog post about it recently. Here is the link https://blog.wikimedia.org/2016/02/01/wikicamp-armenia-student-editors/. It might be helpful.
