Having a single "s" character as a link is a bad idea.

Three major issues:
  1. Clarity: The fact that it's already been suggested that it may mean either section or source proves that it's vague and will result in confusion
  2. Localization: In some languages the first letter of the word section or source won't be the same, and may even be the same as the first letter of edit, or perhaps even be the first letter of the translation for visual
  3. Hit-ability: as mentioned by Bartosz, small targets can be tricky, especially but not exclusively on small devices

What about taking Brandon's idea but keeping them close to eachother and
short:

It's as short as you can get while keeping the primacy of 'edit'.  Also,
the letter 's' makes sense for either 'source' or 'section'.

No idea what basic usability/design conventions that breaks, but I imagine
2 small icons won't be much more intuitive than a letter with a tooltip.

I'm no designer, but the thing to bear in mind here is that people will be clicking that icon, so it should be large enough to be actually hittable. (This will probably be even a worse problem on mobile – fingers are clumsy :) )
