Thanks for showing those sketches, in all of the options my worry is that
it provides the switch from VE to wikitext editor at such a prominent level
that it appears they are of equal importance, and of higher importance than
the other VE tools

Could those advanced users cook a gadget and be done with this problem? A
piece of code that does the trick and VisualEditor and MediaWiki teams
don't need to bother about.
