If you thought the Wikimania fun was over in one weekend, you must not be in Ghana: the Dagbani Wikimedians User Group hosted three phases of celebration, including a post-Wikimania event with their sister communities, the Gurenɛ Wikimedia Community and the Moore Wikimedia Community.
Hi there,
Welcome to this week’s installment of “TL;DR: Wiki in the world!”
Wikimedia updates:
Let the sounds of knowledge ring out: the Sound Logo contest has launched! You have until 10 October to send your submission.
Click to tweet me: The @Wikimedia movement is looking for a sound that will identify content from their projects, including @Wikipedia. Want to play your part? Learn more: soundlogo.wikimedia.org #WikiSoundLogo
The Leadership Development Working Group has been developing a plan to help build skills and leadership capacity in communities as one of the 2030 Wikimedia Movement Strategy recommendations, and now they’re collecting feedback on their findings. Be sure to take a look and contribute your thoughts before 6 October.

A two-month long “Wiki for Senior Citizens” training has recently kicked off in Abuja, Nigeria. The group, facilitated by Igbo Wikipedia Working Group co-founder Obialugeriaku Ezeilo, is teaching the finer points of information technology and how to edit to retirees age 55 and older.
Click to tweet me: To truly represent the sum of all human knowledge, @Wikipedia needs everyone. A training by @bObyEzeilo1 of @wikimediaigbo in Abuja, Nigeria, called “Wiki For Senior Citizens” is part of the solution. https://w.wiki/5hsJ
Latinx Heritage Month began on 15 September! WMF is collaborating with the newly-formed Latinx Employee Resource Group to organize a series of activities that seek to open a space for conversation and celebration of all their contributions to the Foundation and the Wikimedia Movement.
Notable press:
It’s time Wikipedia’s accuracy is taken seriously, reports Australian newspaper The Age.
NPR contributes to the recent wave of attention and appreciation for volunteers’ incredibly speedy work to keep Wikipedia current. This follows a tsunami of traffic on Wikipedia immediately after the death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced on 8 September.
Click to tweet me: "Seconds after the news came out that Queen Elizabeth had died, the edit conflicts on the article for her just absolutely spiked," said @anniierau. @npr reports on @Wikipedia editors’ nearly instantaneous response to the global news: https://www.npr.org/2022/09/15/1122943829/wikipedia--queen-elizabeth-ii-death-deaditors-editors-article
The Hustle reports on The Sound of All Human Knowledge contest and how everyone can help find the first sound logo for Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects.
Thanks for reading and sharing!
