Hi Nemo,

Thanks for the heads-up about the new Flickr photo page design.

I added some screenshots for you on our media viewer best practices deck:

https://docs.google.com/a/wikimedia.org/presentation/d/1wZvLx_Q-bpCCMBjz2Y643uyye1RvYgAaaYFq02lDgxU/edit#slide=id.g4868bc33_018

The first 6 slides in the Flickr section include the new design, which is now remarkably similar to our own Media Viewer. When we met with their team last month, they said their designers had been watching our progress and it seems they may have borrowed a few ideas from us — which I view as a good thing :)

Note that slides 7 and 8 show earlier versions they had experimented with last year. For a while, they tried putting the info to the right of the photo, as Google does. But it seems they went back to putting the info below the photo, which makes more sense if the goal is to make the image more prominent.

I like how the new design invites you to add a title and a description right where you are, which we may want to consider in the next version of Media Viewer, once we have structured data implemented on Commons.

Hope this helps.

Be well,

Fabrice

Yesterday a number of yahoo.uservoice.com highly voted requests were
closed on the basis that a redesign of the redesign has fixed them. It
seems the update is only available in English and I don't find a way to
change interface language (!), can someone who sees it please give some
insight?

Dear Flickr members,

We recently launched a new photo page towards the end of June. Because
of the feedback from you, we’re moving the photo page in a direction
that more closely resembles previous iterations of the product, but with
contemporary design and the new framework that delivers photos so much
faster than before.

These are the advantages of the new photo page:
*Moved the photo information back, so now it appears below the photo.
*The comments have been moved back below the photo as well.
*The text is now black on a white background.

If you have any feedback regarding the new photo page, positive or
negative, please feel free to submit it using a new thread.

Please be aware that we are actively listening to feedback from our
users to improve Flickr and your user experience.
