I've used this myself every now and then and I shared links to the new
media share with others who are not so well versed in Commons. I didn't

There will be data shared, I believe. I'm no longer working directly with the Structured Data team so I have not seen anything in the past couple of weeks, but I did see that in the first few days after release to anons the impressions and click throughs from search results showed a marked increase. A report will be released in the near future I think.
