Hi everyone,
I'm excited to announce that v6.0.2 is now live! Update the app today to get all the latest improvements and fixes.
What's new? 🚀
- The app now supports Android 15 with an improved user interface
- Enhanced Nearby with robust and more reliable labels
- Addressed a bug that prevented the keyboard from appearing in various text fields, such as on the upload wizard
- Links in the "File usages" list are now clickable and will take you to the correct page.
- Titles for file usages are now clearer and easier to understand
- Bug fixes and stability improvements
We sincerely apologise for the recent issues with several flows of the app. Please upgrade to the latest version in case you're experiencing issues with Nearby, Explore, Peer review or while uploading images.
On that note, we’d like to give a huge shout-out to our Outreachy intern, Sonal Yadav, who is behind many of the recent enhancements to the Nearby. You can read about her internship experience here: https://outreachyweek13.hashnode.dev/wrapping-up-my-outreachy-internship. She tackled several issues during her stint, and you can see her contributions here: https://github.com/commons-app/apps-android-commons/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20s….
Feel free to test the latest changes and report any issues you face with v6.0.2 at https://github.com/commons-app/apps-android-commons/issues.
Thank you
Best,
Ritika
Hello everyone,
(apologies for the cross-posting)
I’m excited to share more details about the GLAM Wiki Conference Program—and to remind you to register before in-person registration closes in just a few days!
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM_Wiki_2025/Program/Program
Over three days (October 30 – November 1), we’ll have:
More than 30 lightning talks
Two dozen workshops, trainings, and roundtables
A full-day GLAM Hackathon
A Portuguese-language workshop for institutions new to Wiki
A Global GLAM Strategy day
Sessions on decolonization, heritage at risk, gender in GLAM, technical infrastructure, digitization methods, and much more.
And beyond the sessions, there’s plenty of culture to enjoy:
18+ tours of Lisbon’s cultural institutions
20 film screenings
A concert
Screen printing activities
For those joining remotely, the auditorium sessions will be streamed via Zoom webinar (registration for online participation is also open). There will also be a dedicated space @ GLAM Wiki to watch WikiDataCon (October 31 – November 2).
Don’t miss out—in-person registration closes very soon!
Best,
Connor
Today is a special day, it's the birthday of Wikimedia Commons!
Who celebrates their birthday, receives birthday wishes and gets presents.
You may share your birthday presents and birthday wishes at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Birthday/21st_birthday
PS: If you organise a party to celebrate this birthday, let us know!
(And please make a photo of the cake.)
Birthday tip for WMF: please have finally some serious attention for this
wiki and please solve the various software bugs and half implementations
the site is dealing with. That would be a perfect present, because
Wikimedia Commons is the largest backbone of the Wikimedia movement, it
gets relatively very little attention.
