Hello Commons community!
We would like to share some good news with you: the Connection Product team
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Campaigns/Foundation_Pro…>
at the Wikimedia Foundation is proposing to enable the CampaignEvents
extension <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:CampaignEvents> on
Wikimedia Commons by the week of September 15th.
This extension is designed to simplify the management of community events,
campaigns, projects, and other on-wiki collaborations, in addition to
facilitating the discovery and participation of all contributors in these
events. Once it's enabled on Wikimedia Commons, organizers will have access
to features that will help communicate with participants, as well as plan,
organize, and promote events/campaigns/projects on Wikimedia Commons.
The features of the extension are:
- Event Registration:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event_Center/Registration> A tool that
helps organizers and participants manage event registration directly on the
wiki.
- Collaboration List
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Campaigns/Foundation_Pro…>:
A global list of events and a local list of WikiProjects, accessible at
Special:AllEvents <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:AllEvents>.
- Invitation List:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaigns/Foundation_Product_Team/Invitatio…>
A tool to help organizers find editors who might want to join, based on
their past contributions.
For more information, please check the message shared
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#Upcoming_Deployment…>
on Wikimedia Commons’ Village Pump.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please feel free to share
them on the extension discussion page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:CampaignEvents>. We would love to
hear from you before the rollout!
If you are an organizer and want to know more about the extension or help
us engage/use the features on Wikimedia Commons, please let us know by
responding to this email, posting on the extension discussion page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:CampaignEvents>, or by contacting me
directly via <gfontenelle(a)wikimedia.org>.
Thanks so much for your attention!
Best,
Giovanna

Dear Wikimedians,
On behalf of the Wiki Loves Africa team, we would like to extend our
heartfelt gratitude to you for being part of Wiki Loves Africa 2025.
This year’s theme, “Farm to Plate,” invited us all to reflect on and
celebrate the journey of African food culture from cultivation to
preparation and enjoyment. Thanks to your participation, thousands of
images, videos, and audio recordings now tell richer, more diverse stories
of African traditions, creativity, and daily life.
Your contributions have helped share the African story and ensure that
knowledge about our continent is freely available to the world through
Wikimedia projects. For this, we say a very big thank you.
As we look ahead, we are committed to making Wiki Loves Africa even more
impactful in future editions. To do this, we would love to hear from you.
Your feedback is essential in helping us understand what worked well, what
challenges you faced, and how we can make the campaign an even better
experience for all.
Please take a few minutes to fill out our feedback survey:

Addshore - I don't know if this is the right thread for talking about tools
to add "Depicts" statements, but I tried out WikiCrowd, and it works great!
I just added it to the relevant listings in both the main page, and the
navigation box, for Structured Data on Commons:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Structured_data
There are a fair number of tools for adding structured data, but each one
has its own advantages. WikiCrowd, in my opinion, is nice because of its
simplicity: you can just go to the site and (after an automated login)
start clicking on images.

Hi all,
Is there a script/gadget/tool to easily see which files in a category has
or hasn't the depicts field added as structured data?
Thanks!
Romaine
I am a month too early, but in exactly 31 days and 0 hours, 0 minutes and 0
seconds, it was exaclty 21 years ago that the first edit was done at 7 sep
2004 14:37 UTC at Wikimedia Commons!
With each and every wiki in our movement using the images from Wikimedia
Commons, Commons is one of our most important platforms that contributes to
sharing visual knowledge with the world.
*How are you celebrating?*
Share it with us at:

PS: We are also looking for some people who would like to decorate our
online party venue. Be creative!

Hi everyone,
I'm excited to announce that v5.6.1 is now live! Update the app today to get all the latest improvements and fixes.
What's new? 🚀
- The app no longer uploads images to Wikidata if one exists already for a given item
- File usage displays correctly now
- No more infinite circular progress bar on nominating an image for deletion
- Enhanced location updates while using GPS
- Author/uploader names are now available in Media Details for Commons licensing compliance
- Improved usage of popups in Nearby
- Bug fixes and stability improvements
Please feel free to test the latest changes and report any issues you face with v5.6.1 at https://github.com/commons-app/apps-android-commons/issues.
Thank you
Best,
Ritika
