This Wednesday, October 29 https://35df92cb.streaklinks.com/CohfxUYSEmu7ZHy6rwIUHW3D/https%3A%2F%2Fartandfeminism.org%2Fpanel%2Fartfeminism-celebrates-wikidata%2F, we’re gathering to celebrate the 13th birthday of Wikidata, and to share why Art+Feminism is pivoting to Wikidata as part of our ongoing work to build a more feminist internet.
For those new to it, Wikidata is the structured data backbone of Wikimedia projects, powering how knowledge is connected across the web. It’s also increasingly used by AI and smart technologies, which means the quality and diversity of data on Wikidata directly shapes how we all experience information online.
Right now, data is being wielded by a small group of corporations, institutions, and governments. When that data is biased or incomplete, its effects ripple across the internet. That’s why we’re joining Wikimedians, activists, researchers, and GLAM professionals to explore how feminist data practices can challenge injustice and misinformation.
In this short, 30-minute session https://35df92cb.streaklinks.com/CohfxUYnJ96qcAea_Q5j8962/https%3A%2F%2Fartandfeminism.org%2Fpanel%2Fartfeminism-celebrates-wikidata%2F, we’ll: • introduce Wikidata and why it matters for feminist knowledge • share examples from GLAM communities • preview upcoming Wikidata resources and conversations • and yes, draw a collaborative Wikidata-style birthday cake together!
