BTW, if you use a mysql client on stat1003 to connect, you can use this file with the --defaults-extra-file ClI option.
mysql --defaults-extra-file /etc/mysql/conf.d/research-client.cnf -hanalytics-store.eqiad.wmnet
This way you don’t actually have to enter the username and password.
If you connect via some MySQL GUI on your local machine, you can log into stat1003 (let me know if you have trouble doing that), and copy/paste the contents of /etc/mysql/conf.d/research-client.cnf into your client’s connection settings.

Yes the research password was changed. A lot of people (including me) that thought would keep access, did not. Here's how you can get to the file that has the new credentials:
1. get added to the researchers group. Gilles, you, me, and and some other people were already added [1]
2. you'll then have access to /etc/mysql/conf.d/research-client.cnf on stat1003
