Welcome to the Wikipedia Education Update — a newsletter from the Wikimedia Foundation
that is distributed the first and third Tuesday of each month. Someone from our staff has
talked with you about our Wikipedia Education Program to bring Wikipedia into higher
education classrooms around the world, and we wanted to keep you in the loop on all of our
exciting activities. If you would prefer not to receive these messages, simply reply to
the email and ask for your address to be removed. Learn more about subscribing or read the

Call for Spring 2013 courses opens in US, Canada
The United States and Canada branches of the Wikipedia Education Program are now accepting
applications for instructors interested in formally participating in the program in Winter
and Spring 2013. Instructors who participate in the program have access to Wikipedia
Ambassador resources and support from the Wikimedia Foundation. A new integrated course
page system will also be available for instructors in 2013. Program participation is
limited due to support resources available, so interested instructors are encouraged to
apply today by filling out a simple form expressing your interest. See the form.

Brazil student creates important chemistry article
Students in Professor Regina de Almeida Santos's class at the University of Sao Paulo
have been active in the main space of the Portuguese Wikipedia over the last few weeks.
The students are taking a class on experimental general chemistry, and they have been
writing articles on course-related topics. One student created a new article on the
valence shell electron pair repulsion theory, which had articles in 20 language versions
but not Portuguese until the student started the article. Read the student's article.
