Dear Wikimedians,
As December comes to a close, I’m writing to share that my three-year tenure as *Movement Communications Specialist- Africa, at the Wikimedia Foundation*, has officially come to an end.
It has been a true privilege to serve and learn alongside so many of you across the continent. Over the past three years, I have been grateful to contribute to several initiatives that were deeply rooted in community needs and regional priorities, including:
-
*Mapping Wikimedia communities across Sub-Saharan Africa*, which strengthened informed WMF community outreach in SSA, improved understanding of community realities, and supported more intentional engagement strategies. -
*Starting **the Afrika Baraza* as a regular space for dialogue, connection, and peer learning & sharing across the region. -
*Supporting a community-driven Driven Strategy and implementation of the inaugural Open Journalism Awards*. -
*Supporting the first-ever inclusion of African Wikimedians in the DRIFF Conference*, with the inaugural edition hosted in Nairobi in 2023, which brought together Wikimedians from 5 countries in East Africa (EarthHub). -
*Contributing to the consolidation and development of the Africa Agenda.*
None of this work happened in isolation. It was made possible through the leadership, commitment, and support of most of you, including regional affiliate leaders, organizers, and colleagues across the movement. I am deeply thankful for the trust placed in me and for the many conversations, both public and behind the scenes, that shaped this work.
While my role at the Wikimedia Foundation has concluded, my commitment to the Wikimedia movement, to advocating for African knowledge ecosystems, and community-led Impact storytelling and governance continues.
Thank you for the solidarity, collaboration, and inspiration over the years. I look forward to staying connected and continuing to build together.

Dear Winnie,
It feels like just yesterday that you were introduced to us as a stranger. It has been a long journey since then, during which I've had the opportunity to work with you in connecting Africa to the world and fostering connections within our community, an endeavour that has been quite daring for us. We have grown not only as partners but also as friends working toward a shared goal. The fact that you are still here with us, leading one of Africa's most vibrant communities, gives us great comfort.
All the remarkable achievements as *Movement Communications Specialist- Africa, at the Wikimedia Foundation*, are etched in our memories, and we will continue to hold them dear.
We look forward to ongoing collaboration in the future.

*Mapping Wikimedia communities across Sub-Saharan Africa*, which strengthened informed WMF community outreach in SSA, improved understanding of community realities, and supported more intentional engagement strategies.
*Starting **the Afrika Baraza* as a regular space for dialogue, connection, and peer learning & sharing across the region.
*Supporting a community-driven Driven Strategy and implementation of the inaugural Open Journalism Awards*.
*Supporting the first-ever inclusion of African Wikimedians in the DRIFF Conference*, with the inaugural edition hosted in Nairobi in 2023, which brought together Wikimedians from 5 countries in East Africa (EarthHub).
