Dear African Wikimedians,
We are excited to announce the launch of Africa Wiki Challenge (AWC) 2025 https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:Africa_Wiki_Challenge_2025/Home, taking place from May 25 to June 30, 2025 this year, under the theme:
"Reclaiming Our Narrative: Justice for Africans and the Diaspora through Reparations"
AWC 2025 aligns with the African Union’s Year of Justice, calling on Wikimedians across the continent and beyond to document African histories, perspectives, and advocacy efforts for justice and reparations on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
This challenge is an opportunity to:
- Improve and create articles related to historical injustices, reparations, and African resilience. - Upload images and media to Wikimedia Commons to visually represent key moments in African history. - Translate content into African languages to ensure wider accessibility. - Engage in edit-a-thons and training sessionsto collaborate with fellow Wikimedians.
📅 Launch Event: The campaign will be officially launched on May 23, 2025, with a hybrid event featuring expert discussions on the role of Wikimedia in shaping Africa’s global representation. Register https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:Africa_Wiki_Challenge_2025/Launch to join the conversation and learn more about how you can participate in AWC 2025.
We invite individual contributors, Wikimedia communities, and partner organizations to take part in this year’s challenge and help shape a more accurate and representative online knowledge base for Africa!
