Dear African Wikimedians,
We are excited to announce the Africa Wiki Challenge 2025 (AWC 2025) https://meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:Africa_Wiki_Challenge_2025/Home, set to take place from May 25 to June 30, 2025! This year’s theme, "Reclaiming Our Narrative: Justice for Africans and the Diaspora through Reparations," aligns with the African Union’s theme and seeks to document stories of justice, restitution, and historical redress for African communities worldwide.
To make this campaign a success, we are calling on Wikimedia communities, affiliates, and volunteers across Africa and beyond to organize local events in their respective countries. As a local organizer, you will play a crucial role in mobilizing contributors, hosting edit-a-thons, and ensuring that African histories and perspectives are well-documented on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. Why Organize?
-
Strengthen your local Wikimedia community. -
Contribute to closing knowledge gaps on African justice and reparations. -
Gain experience in event organization and community engagement. -
Be part of a movement that amplifies African voices and narratives.
