Good morning ;
Just a rectification, now in Africa we have Seven user group  Tunisia, Egypt,Algeria,  Nigeria, Ghana, Cotevoire,  and Morocco. As member of wikimedia Tunisia, I support wiki indaba, but we need more activity in africa. wikimedia Tunisia can't host wiki indaba in 2016 ,but it can be possible in 2017.

Dear Douglas
I really appreciate your comment on the subject at hand. And to Felix, you are on point on all your suggestions. ‎

Douglas,  mentioned 2 key issues in your submission:

1. Inability of the South African Chapter to host for now, due to short of resources.

2. The need for editors in Africa to be more active in their contributions by way of editing and community activities.

This is my position: ‎

Without any prejudice to  the position of  South African Chapter of WMF as the shining light of Africa in WMF. However, we need to understand that Wikindaba though  conceptualized by South Africans but it's a project for all the Wikipedians community in Africa. Therefore,  if we believed that it's not dead yet.  Therefore, another country should take up the gauntlet of hosting the new edition . In doing this, we can follow Felix suggestion by selecting one person per affiliate to form a committee that will assist in planning and selection of a host nation.

Douglas, to confirm the growth of Wikimedia in Africa. As at the last Wikindaba, . If I am not mistaken, we only have Tunisia as the only  User Group and South Africa as the only Chapter . But at the moment we have additional Three User Groups which include: Nigeria, Ghana, Cotevoire.

Lastly, if  collaboration among these groups is strengthen through a continental wide activities. No doubt, more editors will be discovered subsequently our contributions will soar to the sky. A very good example is wiki Loves Africa

Even though i concur with some of your thoughts i must confess that most of
the reasons outlined are not very convincing in my opinion. Are we saying
that until we have a staff at Wikimedia ZA to handle logistics support then
we can't have the next Indaba? I am of the opinion that a committee be
created for the purposes of Indaba and a representation from each affiliate
country present in the committee. I am not sure about the small size of
editing communities but i can say for a fact that a couple of affiliates
have sprung after Indaba ( i can recollect Ghana, Nigeria, Algeria, and a
few more) and these new additions have grown new editing communities.

Many good things have been achieved after Indaba but i think people have
not reported and little work has also been done in retrieving such
information, which is why i believe a dedicated committee for the purposes
of Indaba will be great. The various representations in the committee will
also ensure a more effective way of collecting feedback and help monitor
the progress of work done in each country and Africa as a whole.

I am of a very strong view that the basis of hosting Wikiindaba should not
be based on edits, but should be seen more as a strategy session for the
African continent and an opportunity to learn from what has worked or is
working for other countries. More of like a networking forum (whether
yearly or biannually) to discuss and forge the way forward for Africans and
what will best work in Africa.

My thoughts,

Felix
