Dear Community members,
We are glad to inform you that the host city for WikiIndaba 2019 has been selected.
Abuja, Nigeria is set to host the next WikiIndaba. This decision was reached after deliberations between the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia UserGroup Nigeria and input from the community polls carried out.
WikiIndaba Conference is the regional conference for Africans both within and in the diaspora. The first edition was held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2014 by Wikimedia ZA, while the latest edition was held in Tunis, Tunisia in 2018 by Wikimedia TN Usergroup. The 2019 edition of the conference will be hosted in Abuja, FCT, Nigeria by the Wikimedia UG Nigeria.
Aims of WIkiIndaba:
• Building capacity for African Wikimedians
• Fostering growth of the coverage and involvement of Africa in Wikimedia projects
• Connecting African Wikimedians both within the continent and in the diaspora
Schedules:
• August 2018: Conference grants gubmission.
• October 2018: Opening of the scholarship application.
• October 2018: Call for submissions.
• November 2018: Closure of the scholarship application.
• November 2018: Closure of submissions' application.
• November 2018: Finalization and notification of scholarship recipients.
• November 2018: Commencement of travel arrangements for confirmed participants.
• December 2018: Notification of submission decisions.
• January 2019: Publication of conference programs.
• 18 - 20 January 2019: WikiIndaba 2019 Conference.
