Hi everyone,

Whilst it might not be dead it certainly looks like it is in a period of extended hiatus.  This is partially due to the scaling down of Wikimedia South Africa as we no longer have a full time employee who can provide the logistical support necessary to make another event happen.  It is also partly due to the still very small size of the editing community on the continent as well as a lack of feedback and input on motions made during WikiIndaba.

However this does not mean at all the WikiIndaba is dead or that one will not happen again in the future.  It does mean that we as a community of editors in Africa need to work more at building the community of editors in Africa by encouraging people to edit Wikipedia and become committed volunteer editors and established members of the Wikipedia community.  The more editors there are in Africa the greater the need for a future WikiIndaba becomes and the sooner it will happen again.

WikiIndaba is all about supporting and growing the Wikipedia editing community in Africa.  Now is our time to build off the foundations of the first WikiIndaba to expand and support our community.

Best,

Douglas.

Dear all,

Compliment of the season to you all. I can see that no one seem to be commenting on the planning for the next edition of Wikidaba. Is Wikidaba dead?

On the note of this, I think it'll be worth doing another wiki indaba.

I don't know if there's been discussions on where to host it, but I am
confident of a place that can host wiki indaba in Koforidua at an
affordable price..

Should Wiki Indaba be considered to happen, I think Ghana will place in
slot to host.
