Hello Fellow Wikipedians/Wikimedians,

We wish to your notice that the upcoming conference “Wiki Indaba 2016” will
likely hold in January 2017. The WMF is requesting this change of date to
allow them work closely to build a suitable program for the conference. We
have been asked to require all prospective participants meet some
conditions in order to be afforded the opportunity to attend. Also to be
eligible for funding the WMF wishes to see as much endorsements as possible
from the African Community via this link <https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb> -
https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb

Below are some issue and concerns  that were raised;

   1.

To be eligible for a travel scholarship, groups must fill out the questions
   and needs page <https://goo.gl/5pvHo4> - https://goo.gl/5pvHo4
   2.

The program will focus on a limited number of topics identified from the
questions and needs page, and will include several substantive capacity
   building workshops.
   3.

People who receive scholarships must agree to either host a training
when they return to their home community to share something they learned at
the conference, or take responsibility for following up one action item
   from a conference session.
   4.

The conference should be delayed until at least January 2017 to ensure
that communities have time to discuss their needs and prepare effective
   workshops and programs.

We ask that all prospective partcipants (members of potential communities,
community leaders, project leaders and active editors) review the above
criteria and leave a comment on the endorsement page <https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb>
- https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb if you agree to participate in the conference
planning and post-event follow up that has been proposed.

Please if you have any concerns and do not hesitate to contact me or the
team via wikiindabateam@googlegroups.com.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Raphael on behalf of the Wiki Indaba 2016 Team

Deadlines are fast approaching for the second call for project grants. If
you have a great idea of a project to pursue in the next few months and you
need some funding, now is the time to apply for a grant.

Wikimedia volunteers, start your proposal today!  Please encourage others
to apply as well.  Support is available if you want help turning your idea
into a grant request.

   -

   Submit a grant request <
