Ahaha. I learned more on WikiData thanks to you than I have been in many months.
I had to move some properties around. And yes, all is fixed now. 6 articles exist. 2 do not exist. 8 total. All is well.

Thanks

Florence

Hi all

The final coordinates have been added so now all Biosphere Reserves are shown on the maps.

Thanks

John

Hi Flo

The short answer is check back on Sunday and you should see more dots :)

The longer answer is the map runs off Wikidata and only shows Reserves without English Wikipedia articles so when someone created the article the marker will have dissappeared. Also there are around 100 Reserves where the coordinates were in a format that Wikidata couldn't understand so I have to enter them another way, looking at the map of Biosphere Reserves with articles the missing sites are missing coordinates and don't appear on either maps yet. I'm trying to sort this out today and tomorrow.

Thanks very much

John

No, I get it.
The dots are only the missing articles.
So there was one missing. But it is likely to be this one : https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Magaliesberg_Biosphere_Reserve&action=history
Since it has been created... it is not missing any more :)

Now... I think... a path for improvement would be to also propose a display for existing articles. Because those can be stubs and those can benefit from the translation system.

Look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gouritz_Water_Management_Area
It is one of the "World Network of Biosphere Reserves in Africa" articles. Honestly... nope :)

Hmmm

Last week... I saw ONE red point in South Africa. And now... I see none whatsoever.
How can that be ?
We should see 8 points, should not we ?

Hi Florence

Thanks very much for your reply, the map shows Reserves that are missing articles, however I still need to add some sites to the list so have a look towards the end of the week and there might be some appear.

Cheers

John

Hello John

I gave it a quick look and it seemed really really cool.
I saw on the map that there was one non covered region in South Africa. I will take care of it this week and share my return on experience.

Hi all

I'm very happy to say that UNESCO has made the official descriptions of all Biosphere Reserve sites available under a Wikipedia compatible license. Currently around 440 (out of 670) of the Biosphere Reserves do not have an English language Wikipedia article.

These descriptions can be used as the missing Wikipedia articles with very little adaption. I have created (with a lot of help) a pretty snazzy Wikidata map and a set of instructions to help people create the missing articles. As far as I know this is the first time someone has done something like this The people who have already used the instructions say it takes around 10 minutes to create a new article, which is quite fast I think. Please give it a try. You can use the map to see which articles are missing in each country.

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiProject_UNESCO/Create_Biosphere_Reserve_Wikipedia_articles_from_UNESCO_descriptions

I would really love it if you could create some articles (there are quite a few missing sites in Africa) and also retweet me to help more people know about it. Once the articles are created in English I'm hoping that it will make it easier for people to create articles in other languages as well.
