Oh yes, referencing has always been a thorn, and I doubt how well one can provide explanation to maintain an article that doesn't have references and have been marked for deletion.

The policies are more and more important than improving contents, thus it gets deleted.

Sometimes, there's nothing about an issue or person online, and the best reference to get to support the article isn't that strengthening. In light of that, contesting doesn't bear fruits as it'll be deleted. Deleting articles are so much fun for admins. Yes it is!

At least, there are 100s of pages, if not thousands, explaining unending policies. And even before one contest, he or she is advised to remember to read: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:ATA

Admins already know what you'll say, so why say!

Thank you so much for the link Iolanda, I'm definitely having it on my watchlist !!

And just for arguments sake I don't think it's about creating articles on topics and people that are notable, In fact this is one of the main purpose why we have this mailing list specifically for African Wikimedians, to find ways on how we can increase as much African content as we can. However the issue of referencing/citation is still a thorn.

Warm regards,

I have just discovered that there is a page where it is possible to monitor articles for delation related to Africa.
you find it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Deletion_sorting/Africa

maybe it can be relevant to put this page among your favorite pages or to check it once in a while if you want to provide your opinion.
I think people in this mailing list might enrich significantly the discussions related to delation.

it is healthy to delate articles which present topics and people that are indeed not notable. but as we know, sometimes you need to have some background knowledge to actually know what is notable and what is not. your contribution in this would be great.

thanks,
