Hello everyone,

excited to support communities in organizing local activities. If you are
planning to apply for a grant to organize activities as part of the
campaign, now is the time to start preparing your application.
*The grant application deadline is 1 July 2026*, so we encourage you to
begin the process as soon as possible.
To support applicants, we will host an *Office Hour* on *Tuesday, 16 June
2026, at 4:00 PM UTC*. During this session, Willy Buloso

Hello everyone,
One of the easiest things to overlook after completing a project or event
is documenting what happened, what was learned, and what others can take
away from the experience.
The EduWiki Newsletter exists to capture these stories and make them
available to the wider Wikimedia and education community. Each month, it
brings together experiences, ideas, and lessons from different regions,
helping communities learn from one another and discover new approaches to
Wikimedia and education work.
As we begin preparing the June 2026 edition, we invite you to share stories
from your community. This could be a project, workshop, campaign,
partnership, classroom activity, research initiative, or reflection on your
work.
Articles should be *300–500 words* and can be submitted in *English or your
local language*. You may also include *images, audio, or video* to support
your story.
Please note that *only stories related to Wikimedia and Education* will be
captured.
Submit your story here: *Education Newsroom
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Education/News/Newsroom>*
*Submission deadline: 26 June 2026*
If this is your first submission, or you need a refresher, please review
the *Publication Guidelines
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Education/News/Publicati…>*
and our *video guide
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Submitting_a_Story_to_the_EduWiki_N…>*
before submitting.
We look forward to learning about what your community has been working on.
Best regards,

I am pleased to announce the launch of the Wiki Loves Women Skills Focus

Following the successful conclusion of the Wiki Loves Women Focus Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Women/Focus_Group>, we are
introducing this new initiative to provide community members with
practical, hands-on skills that support their work within Wikimedia and
Open Knowledge communities.
The WLW Skills Focus Programme is a short, collaborative online training
programme focused on learning through practice. Each edition is centered on
a specific skill set and guides participants towards creating a tangible
final output.
For the 2026 edition, participants will explore audio storytelling and
podcast production, learning how to develop, record, edit, and publish a
podcast episode from start to finish..
To help interested participants learn more about the programme, the team
will host an Office Hour on 15 June 2026 at 13:00 UTC. During this session,
we will introduce the programme, explain the application process, and
answer any questions from prospective participants. (Register here

*D*ear Wikimedia Community,
On behalf of the ZedWiki Podcast Production Team, I am pleased to announce
the release of the latest episode of the ZedWiki Podcast, which debuted on
June 1, 2026.
Season 2, Episode 6, titled "From Information to Innovation," represents a
significant milestone for our "Knowledge Without Borders" initiative, as
the production team traveled on location to Nakonde, Zambia's prominent
northern gateway. Hosted by Joy Chikonde (Shah), the episode examines the
intersections of cross-border dynamics, regional heritage, and how open
access to information drives societal innovation.
The episode features several key segments designed to bridge local history
with global movement updates:
-
*Today in History:* A historical review of major milestones associated
with June 1, featuring an in-depth look at the legacy of the Lusaka
Manifesto.
-
*My Town, Your Town:* An exploration of Nakonde, focusing on its
cultural footprint, economic significance, and role in regional
connectivity.
-
*Wikimedia Tech & Tools:* An update on the latest technical developments
and digital tools available to empower open-knowledge editors and
volunteers globally.
-
*Cultural Curation:* A selection of featured music integrated into the
broadcast, highlighting tracks from Platform 1, Tinie Tempah, Wiz Khalifa,
Keri Hilson, and Ne-Yo.
This production was made possible through the efforts of Isaac User:Icem4k
(Producer and Writer), Louis (Sound Engineer) Jason and Grace
User:ChaloNiZambia (Research team).
By translating documented history into an accessible auditory format, this
project continues to preserve regional oral traditions while expanding
Zambia's presence within the global free-knowledge ecosystem.
The episode is now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and
Amazon Music plus other major Podcast platforms. We invite you to listen,
share within your networks, and engage with this latest piece of
community-driven documentation.
