Statement from Creative Commons, and then also a tutorial for submitting a
request for Translation Admin privileges; + plenty of time for other
updates from you and anyone else in the community.

SESSION RECAP & RECORDING
DCW Conversation Hour - May 2026
Dear Wikimedians,
On behalf of the Deoband Community Wikimedia, thank you for joining our
Conversation Hour with Léa Lacroix, Community Engagement Consultant and
Founder of Wiki Sud Italia & Wikimedia Consultants Network.
Our discussion focused on strategies to revive and build momentum in
local Wikimedia communities drawing on Léa's inspiring work in Southern
Italy and Sicily. She emphasized starting with low-pressure, informal
meetups to build connection and sense of community as well as seeking
out individuals who already share a collaborative mindset. She
highlighted that the best way to keep volunteers engaged is by focusing
on their personal interests and local culture. For example, rather than
hosting a typical photography event, the Sicily group organized a
hands-on cheese-making class to document local recipes for Wiki Loves
Sicilia. Léa also shared strategies for partnering with underfunded
museums and libraries, explaining how to align our mission for open
knowledge with their need for foot traffic and digitization.
If you missed the live session or would like to revisit the discussion,

Dear colleagues,
We are writing to invite you to participate in the planning process for LD4 2026, the annual conference of the LD4 community which works together to advance GLAM practices with a focus on linked open data. The next LD4 Conference will take place online from 28 - 30 SEPTEMBER 2026. We hope to design an engaging and informative conference by convening a diverse group of volunteers bringing together a wide range of skill levels, interests, and backgrounds.
Please fill out this brief form<https://forms.gle/hutCjCg6mJ4b985e8> to indicate your interest in helping to plan and run the 2026 LD4 Conference. All selected volunteers will automatically be a part of the Programming Committee, which vets proposals for conference sessions, works on scheduling concerns, as well as other tasks relating to the conference program. In addition, volunteers will serve on one or more subcommittees of their choosing: Outreach Committee, Technology & Accessibility Committee, and Social Committee. Volunteers will be expected to attend a monthly programming committee meeting (1 hour), a monthly subcommittee meeting (1 hour), and complete any supporting tasks needed for the committees' work. Here are the scopes of these committees:
* Outreach Committee: Draft and distribute communications and promotional materials relating to the conference. Develop and maintain content for the conference website. Identify possibilities for partnerships with groups outside of LD4. Help with facilitation of sessions during the conference.
* Technology & Accessibility Committee: ensure the seamless operation of conference platforms and applications, including Zoom, Slack, Sched, and YouTube, while maintaining a strong commitment to accessibility. Develop guidelines for platform use, troubleshoot technical issues, and verify that accessibility measures from previous conferences are effectively implemented. Identify areas for improvement and ensure that all technological and accessibility features function properly throughout the event.
* Social Committee: develop informal social programming for the conference. Suggest updates and additions to conference participation guidelines and code of conduct. Help with facilitation of social programs and other sessions during the conference.
*
To see detailed role descriptions and express your interest to participate, please complete the form below by 8 JUNE 2026. Volunteers will be notified of the chairs' decisions by 15 JUNE 2026. The committee will begin to meet in the last week of JUNE 2026 and all volunteers will participate in planning, program development, and supporting conference sessions.

will take place in 2026 in Kenya.
The purpose of the Summer Institutes is to bring together graduate
students, postdoctoral researchers, and beginning faculty interested in
computational social science. Since 2017, the Institutes have provided
more than 1,200 young scholars with cutting-edge training in the field
and the opportunity to develop more than 120 research collaborations
that break down disciplinary barriers.
In 2026,the SICSS Research Programme
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikimedia_at_Summer_Institutes_in_…>will
propose unique experiences to Wikimedians.
Called "Wikimedia at Summer Institutes in Computational Social Science",
the initiative aims to build ecosystems of collaboration between African
Wikipedians and computational social scientists by developing research
about the Wikimedia movement as part of the regular annual two weeks
Summer Institutes in Computational Social Science. In 2026, there will
be 3 summer schools involved in this "wikimedia related" initiative, as
part of the more global drive, in KENYA, BURKINA-FASO and NIGERIA.
