of the EduWiki Newsletter.
Every month, the EduWiki Newsletter documents Wikimedia and education work
happening across communities, classrooms, libraries, institutions, and
projects across the movement.
This year alone, we have published *65 stories* from across the Wikimedia
movement and *26 of these stories are from the Sub-Saharan Africa region*,
reaching *more than 300 newsletter subscribers globally*. Every month, we
publish at least *10 stories*, and there is still room for yours to be part
of the May 2026 edition.
If you or your community has organized an activity related to Wikimedia and
education, taken a new approach, built a partnership, or learned something
worth documenting, we encourage you to share it.

Suite à notre mise à jour du mois dernier concernant la soumission de la
proposition de subvention pilote pour les pôles panafricains (2026-2027),
nous sommes heureux de partager une autre étape importante du processus;

Orientation des services du projet pilote du Hub panafricain - Suite aux
premiers commentaires de l'équipe de la Fondation Wikimedia soutenant les
hubs sur la proposition de subvention, le comité de pilotage du Hub a
recentré la mise en œuvre du projet pilote de 14 mois sur trois catégories
de services principales : renforcement des capacités et développement du
leadership ; initiatives collaboratives et partenariats visant à combler
les lacunes en matière de connaissances ; et échange et documentation des
connaissances.
Ce service couvrira des domaines programmatiques clés répondant aux besoins
des contributeurs africains de Wikimedia, notamment la collecte de fonds,
la communication, la gestion de projets et le soutien au développement et à
l'expansion des droits des utilisateurs à travers l'Afrique.

Collaboration entre les Hubs régionaux et thématiques
Ce projet pilote sera mis en œuvre en collaboration avec les structures
régionales et thématiques existantes, notamment le Hub d’Afrique de
l'Ouest, le Hub des Grands Lacs, le Hub régional et thématique d’Afrique de
l'Est (EARTHub), Africa Wiki Women, le Hub Afrique centrale et WISCom.
Cette approche collaborative vise à garantir que les services restent
adaptés au contexte, répondent aux besoins régionaux et soient axés sur la
communauté.
Le modèle du Hub panafricain vise à créer une structure de soutien

Warm greetings from the Pan-African Hub Committee.
Following our update shared last month regarding the submission of the
Pan-African Hubs Pilot Grant proposal (2026–2027), we are pleased to share
an additional important milestones in the process;

The Pan-African Hub Pilot Service Focus -The Hub Steering Committee,
following preliminary feedback on the grant proposal from the Wikimedia
Foundation team supporting hubs, has streamlined the focus of the 14-month
pilot implementation to three core service categories: Capacity Building
and Leadership Development; Collaborative Initiatives and Partnerships
Addressing Knowledge Gaps; and Knowledge Exchange and Documentation.
This service will address key programmatic areas relevant to the needs of
African Wikimedians, including but not limited to fundraising,
communications, project management, and supporting the growth and
development of users with extended rights across Africa.

Community Endorsements: As we continue refining the pilot, we kindly
invite African Wikimedia communities, regional and thematic hub community

within the Wikimedia movement on the continent. Community endorsements will
help demonstrate regional support for the pilot and strengthen the
collective vision for more coordinated, localized, and sustainable support
structures across the continent.

Regional & Thematic Hubs Collaboration
The pilot will be implemented collaboratively with existing regional and
thematic structures, including the West African Hub, Great Lakes Hub, East
African Regional & Thematic Hub (EARTHub), Africa Wiki Women, Central
Africa Hub, and WISCom. This collaborative approach is intended to ensure
that services remain context-driven, regionally responsive, and
community-centered.
The Pan-African Hub model seeks to create a more coordinated continental
support structure that strengthens collaboration, resource sharing,
leadership development, and collective learning across Wikimedia
communities in Africa. Under this approach, existing regional and thematic
hubs will work within a broader Pan-African coordination framework aimed at
strengthening the collective vision for more coordinated, localized, and
sustainable support structures across the continent.

mendukung anggota baru serta memperkuat komunitas lokal.
Sesi orientasi ini akan memberikan panduan langkah demi langkah mengenai
Kit Awal dan tiga bagian utamanya:
- Wikimedia Saat Ini
- Komunitas Pendidikan Wikimedia
- Perencanaan dan Pelaksanaan Inisiatif EduWiki
Baik Anda baru memulai perjalanan Wikimedia atau telah berpengalaman
bertahun-tahun dalam mendukung program pendidikan, sesi ini akan menawarkan
alat-alat berharga, panduan yang jelas, dan sumber daya siap pakai yang
dapat Anda terapkan di komunitas Anda sendiri. Sesi ini juga dapat
berfungsi sebagai kit alat bagi pendatang baru untuk proses onboarding dan

Participants can contribute in multiple ways, including creating new
Wikipedia articles on water and sanitation topics in Africa, improving
existing content across Wikimedia platforms, uploading images and videos to
Wikimedia Commons, adding structured data to Wikidata to improve visibility
and access, and documenting local water systems, innovations, and community
practices.
Weekly Virtual Office Hours
To support participants throughout the campaign, we will host weekly
virtual office hours. These sessions will provide guidance on editing and
contributions, technical support for Wikimedia platforms, topic suggestions
and collaboration opportunities, and space for questions and peer learning.
Details for each weekly session, including dates, times, and access links,
will be shared via this mailing list and our community channels.
