Title: Contract Front End/UX Engineer (FormWizard)

Summary:

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Contract UX/Front End Engineer for a short project to make usability improvements to FormWizard. The contract engineer will work independently with some guidance from members of the the Community Resources, Design and Engineering teams.

FormWizard is currently used on the Grants portal as a way to create new grant proposals. This tool doesn’t, however, work on mobile, which makes starting a grant proposal from a mobile device almost impossible. The engineer working on this project will support Foundation efforts to connect with users in emerging communities, and engaging newcomers unfamiliar with wiki environment.

The contract engineer will make the following improvements to FormWizard:

  • Fixes:

    • FormWizard should work on mobile phones

    • FormWizard should work for non-logged in users

    • Migrate code to MediaWiki extension

    • Migrate to OOjs UI

    • New features (nice to have):

    • Simplify the workflow to register a new account through FormWizard

Skills:

  • Required: Front end/UX engineer (CSS, javascript, knowledge of MediaWiki software).

  • Nice to have: familiarity with Lua

Application instructions: Please include a link to a mobile-friendly gadget you have created, gerrit commits, or a link to a GitHub repository.

Estimated time: 40 to 60 hours over 4 weeks.

Project dates: June 1 - June 30
