There are more than enough ways to contribute to the Wikimedia community as a volunteer developers. Have a look at this:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_contribute and choose the one that interests you and focus on it, then go deeper and deeper and deeper until you fill the impact you are making.
