Hello all,
If you have successfully applied for GSoC then you must be aware that
results for accepted proposals will be announced April 23rd. Asking
yourself what to do between now and then? Good.
1. Make a few more research on your project topic.
2. Get in touch with your mentors on IRC and try to ask as many
questions as you need to understand your project more.
3. Keep working on micro tasks and making patches.
4. Make sure you don't stay back and just wait. Do something
This is the period mentors make a choice. So, please prove your worth.
All the best,
*AWMD Core Team*

Hello all,
This is just a kind reminder for those of you interested in applying for
Google Summer of Code 2018. We are 20 hours close to application dateline.
Remember after creating a draft proposal on phabricator, you still need to
import it to a google docs, finalize it depending on reviews from mentors
and submit a link and PDF of it on *GSoC site
<https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/> *along side a proof of enrollment.
Feel free to reply to this mail with any question and good luck to all
applicants.
Best,
*AWMD Core Team*

Hello Everyone!
Hope we're all doing great? Africa Wikimedia Developers is a group now on
the Wikimedia Resource Center (WRC)
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Resource_Center>[1], you can see
that here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Connect/Africa_Wikimedia_Developers. There
are a lot of things you can do with this group;
* We can ask our questions and expect to get an answer and the list of
questions will be available for others to read.
* We can connect with other Wikimedians and work together on what interest
us (individually).
* Hey, writing on Meta (there on the group) also increases your edit count
on the wiki :D.
Feel free to reach us on WRC Connect[2] with your questions anytime and
we'll do our best to help you out. Also we'll build these conversations as
time goes so that we use the information in the future to help the younger
generation.
*NOTE:*
When trying to make contact to ask questions, check the best possible
platform in order to get your questions answered on time and in the best
possible way, see below;
* Mailing List
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/african-wikimedia-developers>
: Maybe quick but generally slow but very reliable as someone will see and
definitely answer but the questions are not searchable after a while and
may get lost.
* IRC : Quick but not very reliable as people may be away and you may also
leave IRC when someone answers the question so you would not see the
response. But this place is best for holding meetings where everyone is
available at a particular time :)
* Wikimedia Developer Support <https://discourse-mediawiki.wmflabs.org/> :
I believe in this platform and it's reliable. Also, the questions can be
used by others in the future as reference so (very recommended).
* AWMD Group on WRC
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Connect/Africa_Wikimedia_Developers> :
Quick and reliable as I'm watching that page and will always give feedback
to any questions that come in. This is a focused group so if there is
anything related to AWMD, ask here and if it's Developer related, ask on
the Wikimedia Developer Support :)
