Wikimedia Developer Support Platform | Ask your Questions with hopes for adequate answers

Hello Everyone! Hoping we're all doing great? As part of making sure there is a strong reliability and support to developers across the entire Wikimedia movement, WMF has made available a platform meant to support new developers to connect and ask their questions and get the entire communities response about it. The link to this platform can be access via: https://discourse-mediawiki.wmflabs.org/. As a (new) developer, there is need for a place where questions can be asked and answered and also the answers are kept so that others can refer to it at some point in the future. On IRC, for example, after a question is answered, it's gone and can be only reached via the logs which is quite tedious. So with a platform like this to curate a list of so many questions asked and answers (of various types) kept for future inference, it's just wonderful and please let's to make use of this platform to clear our Wikimedia software engineering doubts once and for all. I urge you all to ask your questions when you are stuck on this platform, this will go a long way to boost your performance and speed/reliability to get answers to questions ASAP. GCI Has Ended

Hello all, This has been the largest GCI ever with 25 orgs, 710 mentors, and over 3500 students completing an astounding *16,437 *tasks -- There was a total of 1340 students complete 6,379 tasks in 2016 for reference. Org admins are now selecting the program finalist (5 students) from the top 10 students. These 5 students will all be considered as Finalists and will receive the GCI finalist hoodie and a special certificate designating them as a finalist for GCI 2017. The two Grand Prize Winners will receive a 4 day trip for themselves and a parent or legal guardian to Google headquarters in California. Thank you all for your great work and participation. AWMD IRC Channel moving from #wiki-dev-africa to #wikimedia-dev-africa

Hello Everyone! Hope you're all doing great? The AWMD core team has had some requests and internal discussions about the migration from #wiki-dev-africa to #wikimedia-dev-africa since it's an official Wikimedia project and has to be in the Wikimedia IRC channel namespace. To understand what this means, see this: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC/Channels. Charitwo <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Charitwo> who is a member of the IRC Contact group for Wikimedia Foundation filed a request about us considering the migration since Wikimedia Foundation owns the #wikimedia-* namespace, so the AWMD core team reconsidered to move. >From now, anyone trying to join the old channel (#wiki-dev-africa) will be redirected to the new channel automatically but it would be good to note that this will only last for 60 days. So do well to practice joining the new channel (by default) which is: *#wikimedia-dev-africa.* Also, all bots which were attached to the old channel to help us track activities, we'll patch it to redirect to the new channel. We've solved this problem in such a way that hitches has been greatly minimized. It's usually not an easy one :) In addition, we also apologize for any inconveniences this would have caused you!
