Dear friends of free knowledge,
Wikimedia Commons is in crisis. There are numerous concerns and
complaints about our central media platform, for many years.
Therefore, this open letter asks the Wikimedia Foundation to Think
big! about the future of Wikimedia Commons.
In late August 2022, we at the Commons Photographers User Group talked
about Wikimedia Commons. The result of these and other talks is this
open letter.
We invite everyone to sign this open letter to show how important
Wikimedia Commons is to you. You may be a regular Commons contributor,
a Wikipedian, an editor of Wiktionary or Wikivoyage, or maybe you
represent an affiliation. We also strongly invite other people who are
involved with Commons directly or indirectly, maybe in the context of
a GLAM.
Please inform others about this open letter.
Kind regards,
Ziko van Dijk

Hello everyone,
The eighth workshop on the topic of "How to interact with Wikidata via
Pywikibot" is coming up - it will take place on Friday, October 7th at
16:00 UTC. You can find more details on the workshop and a link to join
here: <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Small_wiki_toolkits/Workshops#How_to_intera…>
[1].
This workshop will summarise how to access and save information to
Wikidata, including through page generators and queries*, using Pywikibot.
It will also cover the Wikidata conventions about the bot editing,
including the bot approvals process (*queries not included, please bring
your own!). This session will be run by Mike Peel.
To participate in this workshop, you would need basic familiarity with
Wikidata and Pywikibot installation.
We look forward to your participation!
Best,
Srishti

While the Signpost is hosted on the English Wikipedia and started as very
much an EN Wiki venture, it aspires to be of more general interest. Looking
at that specific issue, yes there is much that is mainly English Wikipedia
focused, including a small contribution of mine. But some of the content,
such as about the WMF elections is of general community interest, and at
least one story is about Wikimedia Commons rather than Wikipedia.
