Wikipedia to Celebrate 10th Birthday January 15, 2011<br>

January 15, 2011 will mark a decade of Wikipedia. Founded by Jimmy<br>
Wales in 2001, Wikipedia has become the fifth most popular website in<br>
the world with 410 million monthly readers (comScore, November 2010).<br>
Just three years after its founding, Wikipedia reached 500,000<br>
articles in 50 languages. Now, at 17 million articles in 270 languages<br>
and growing, Wikipedia is the only top-ten website in the world that<br>
is truly user-generated, supported and maintained. Over the last ten<br>
years, hundreds of thousands of people have contributed more than one<br>
billion edits to this vital resource.<br>

To commemorate this historical milestone, people all over the world<br>
are gathering at events -- at least five on every continent -- to<br>
celebrate Wikipedia. 17 volunteer-planned events will be taking place<br>
