Just FYI, this was the most-stressed topic during my interviews at the
WMF. So I don't think it's a matter of the WMF not being aware of the topic.
I think many programmers who have worked in
programming
companies are too used to just talking and listening to their team
leaders and no-one else.
This is true, but we are trying not to hire this sort of person.
Off the top of my head I would guess at least 75% of the developers here
had significant open source experience before being hired, many with
Wikimedia projects.
