Perhaps you may not be aware, but in South India, Tamil Nadu and
Karnataka to be precise, use Electronic Ticketing machines, where the
Conductor types in the fare stage and a ticket is printed. I contacted
the two companies who had such systems back in 2009, MicroFX and Aeon
something to find out that both the device and software were patented.
