Dear Australian Wikimedians, <br><br>I have just been informed there's a job going at the National Library helping to run their newspaper digitisation project. This is an amazing project and is one of the most important resources historians and social researchers have in the country. Furthermore, they have a really cool wiki-like system for allowing people to help improve the OCR text. This is taking crowdsourcing to the next level. Please see below for the full details. Furthermore, Rose Holley, the director of this project, will be a presenter at our upcoming GLAM-WIKI <a href="http://glam.wikimedia.org.au">glam.wikimedia.org.au</a> conference in Canberra. As it turns out, she has been personally creating Wikipedia articles about old Australian newspapers and linking to that article from within her newspapers project - a mutually beneficial relationship!<br>

<div><font face="Arial, sans-serif" size="2">This position will provide support to the Manager of the Australian Newspaper Digitisation Program (ANDP) <a href="http://www.nla.gov.au/ndp" target="_blank"><font color="#0000ff"><u>http://www.nla.gov.au/ndp</u></font></a>. Under
minimal direction the position will manage day to day newspaper digitisation operations, including scheduling and monitoring of digitisation and overseeing the work of a small team of quality assurance staff. </font></div>

<div><font face="Arial, sans-serif" size="2">The ANDP was established in 2007. The initial project phase which was completed in 2009 achieved establishment of a national infrastructure, development of a newspapers content management system (NCM), development
of a public search and delivery system (Australian Newspapers beta <a href="http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au" target="_blank"><font color="#0000ff"><u>http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au</u></font></a>), and commencement of operational mass scale digitisation. Further enhancement of software,
systems and workflows is now being undertaken to ensure that mass digitisation can be effectively managed into the future. The position will be involved with ongoing development of the Program, helping to set business requirements for software, reviewing specifications,
undertaking software acceptance testing; liaison with State and Territory Libraries in their capacity as stakeholders, and ongoing development of contributor scenarios for the future. </font></div>

<div><font face="Arial, sans-serif" size="2">Staff at this level are required to demonstrate initiative, flexibility and problem solving skills. They should demonstrate their ability to exercise independent judgement to resolve issues. They are likely to be
required to undertake research in relevant areas, including the development and review of policies and procedures, and to provide technical and administrative advice to the Manager – ANDP. Strong written and oral skills are required. Budget monitoring and reporting
is required.</font></div>
