There is a proposal to add an edit box and a diff view for .svg files
(which are stored in plain text) but it's been on the back burner for
2+1/2 years.
Obviously making bitmap/raster images editable and diffable in situ
would be significantly harder (and less likely to have a constructive
purpose) than doing so for svgs, so I'll believe it after I see it.
