Others have hinted at this, but let's take a look at the verifiability policy.

This page in a nutshell: Articles should contain only material that
has been published by reliable sources. Editors adding or restoring
material that has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, or
quotations, must provide a reliable published source, or the material
may be removed.

It does not say "If the article says the sky is blue, you need a
source".  Policy is that if something is challenged or likely to be
challenged, THEN you need a source.  Get that?  Sourcing for
non-controversial facts really is optional.
