There is absolutely nothing at all in MediaWiki that makes a page in a
subcategory behave like it's also in the parent category. Nothing.
It's completely and utterly a construct in the mind of the user.
But it's by far the most logical construct to make, and there is very
little reason to keep the software free from any support of that
construct (even if it is to the detriment of other, more exotic constructs).
