We should be careful to make such guidelines reflect the fact that MOST
people who discover an article about themselves don't have bad intentions. I
last read it a few days ago, before David's modifications, but it seemed to
be rather biased towards the view that most such persons will be either (a)
those who are too unremarkable to have a Wikipedia article but self-create
one, or (b) those wanting to use the article for self-promotion, delete
verifiable and honest criticism, or don't want an article about themselves.
Basically, it represents the viewpoint (largely true in the past) that most
such people who come to Wikipedia are crackpots or scarcely notable. Our
notability/notoriety has now gone beyond that, and I suspect we will see
much more of this in the future.
