Greetings all mobilers and mobile enthusiasts,
The Mobile Web team is very close to finishing out our epic multi-quarter
collaboration with the Editing team and releasing a mobile-friendly VE
experience for tablet users (yay)!
The two teams (Mobile Web & Editing) have pledged to close out the
remaining high priority bugs and feature enhancements in the coming 2-3
weeks, with the goal of pushing VE to stable on *July 31*. This means that
users editing on wikis that have VE as the default editing experience
(projects like French and Portuguese Wikipedias, among others) will be sent
to VE editing by default, and users editing on wikis that have VE as an
opt-in (like English Wikipedia, among others) will be sent to the wikitext
editor but will have the option to switch to VE editing within the editing
workflow (a one-time sticky preference once they make the switch).
Once VE is live for tablet users, the Mobile Web team will help triage and
fix any remaining bugs, but the product roadmap for mobile VE will migrate
to the hands of the Editing team – so new feature requests and UX
enhancements will need to be run by James & the rest of the Editing team :)
Hang in there, folks – we're almost there!
