In the end, this comes down to one thing: If I ask to be cited, I will
be. If Wikipedia removes this request, and acts as if I haven't asked
to be cited, my work will not be cited.
I don't see how Wikipedia thinks that it has the right to act as if my
wishes - a simple request that I get credited for my work when it's
used, ideally with a link back, so that people can find the other
things I've done and use them as well - are something that's evil and
should not be communicated to people wishing to reuse it.
It's not like I'm asking for anything that would impede usage of the
files in any way whatsoever. Hell, if you wanted, I'd even be willing
to work out a license *even less restrictive than CC-by* But how on
earth are people going to even find my work to reuse it if it gets
printed and used without an attribution?
