Hi Stevie,

This is actually the kind of great news we've been waiting for. Of course, it's a long way uphill, but at least all the right questions are on the table. Term lengths, new exceptions, unified rules, an opt-in system. My initial reaction was "wow". It will be important to have it filled out by February by as many as possible.

We have also alreayd had a few like-minded organisations asking whether we can cooperate on this one. I believe that it makes sense if the people interested in copyright come together and work out something like "answering guidelines". Creative Commons did that for the PSI Directive and it was quite effective. I have already spoken to Mathias about this and will include anybody who wishes to join in the process.

If we have such a thing by the end of the year/first half of January, then we will have until February to spread the word and have organisations participate. Seeing that this is copyright, it is also the area where we can have the biggest impact and should take the lead.

At least these are my initial thoughts :) Open for comments.

Dimi

2013/12/5 Stevie Benton <stevie.benton@wikimedia.org.uk>
