In particular, make sure you have the following lines in your
LocalSettings.php:
$wgUseTeX = true;
$wgMathPath = "{$wgUploadPath}/math";
$wgMathDirectory = "{$wgUploadDirectory}/math";
$wgTmpDirectory = "{$wgUploadDirectory}/tmp";
