As of Feb 20, 2018, the developers of Parsoid are deprecating support
for node v4. Parsoid is the service that powers VisualEditor, Content
Translation, Structured Discussions (formerly Flow), and other MediaWiki
features. If you don't run a MediaWiki install that uses VisualEditor or
these other features, then this announcement does not affect you.
Node v4 is reaching end of life (EOL) on April 30, 2018 [1].
In March, we'll release our next debian [2] and npm [3] packages. This
will be the last release that will have node v4 support. We'll continue
to provide any necessary critical bug fixes and security fixes for these
packages till node v4's EOL date.
If you are running a Parsoid service on your wiki and are still using
node v4, please upgrade your node version by May 2018. Parsoid has been
tested with node v4, v6 , v8 and the latest (v10) and works with all
these versions. So, the upgrade away from node v4 should be seamless
from the Parsoid point of view.
The Wikimedia cluster runs node v6 right now and will be upgraded to
node v8 some time this year. However, we are dropping support for node
v4 right away from the master branch of Parsoid. Going forward, the
Parsoid codebase will adopt features available in node v6 and higher
(async / await) which aren't supported in node 4x and will constitute a
breaking change.
Going forward, we will NOT be issuing these node version deprecation
announcements. Parsoid's support for specific node versions will be
dropped around the same time that the specific node version reaches its EOL.
Subbu,
On behalf of the Parsoid developers.

Hi all, I'm RazeSoldier.
I sent this email because mwExtUpgrader has released a beta version. But you're sure to wonder what mwExtUpgrader is?
mwExtUpgrader is I developed and it is a tool for batch upgrade MediaWiki extensions. This is interactive command line script written in PHP. I believe many people are updated one by one via ExtensionDistributor[1], without git. This script can help operator who do not intend to use git to manage version but feel a headache when upgrading their MediaWiki installation. Although, it is to batch replace old files as new files and it will not run update.php to update the database schema.
This script works looks good for me, but it still needs to be test by the public. Please test it, but note that this release of code is not stable. Do not use for production. You can copy your installation directory to your home directory, to test it.

Hi, upstream are currently in the process of redesigning polygerrit to look more like [1].
Upstream have started to redesign the dashboard which was recently done, but upstream are now redesgning it again due to feedback that it looked old and not modern. See task https://bugs.chromium.org/p/gerrit/issues/detail?id=8362
Im writing this task as i've seen tasks related to improvements to gerrit's ui being filled (against gwtui).
Does anyone have any feedback?
We can forward this upstream as they are listening to everyone's feedback.
This is your perfect chance to get your feedback in so it could possibly be done in the gerrit 2.16 / 3.0 release.

* Not present today.
Hi,
Two quick things:
* First, we updated the cookie path for Gerrit to enable sharing
authentication with the new Gitiles repo browser--for most users this has
been transparent but a few people have reported problems with being able to
login. If this happens, try clearing out any cookies you have for
gerrit.wikimedia.org and try logging in anew.
* Second: if you use Lastpass for your password management...the update
last week seems to have added autocomplete="off" to the login form, which
makes the workflow for password managers a little annoying. I'll look into
this further.

Hey all,
I'm pleased to announce a proposed followup for WikiProject X, a project
previously funded by an Individual Engagement Grant. I have now
submitted a Project Grant, according to the new system, with which I
intend to complete and fully assess the development of CollaborationKit,
the extension James Hare, Brian Wolff, and I created in 2016 in the
renewal round of the original grant to facilitate the creation,
management, and usage of WikiProjects on the English Wikipedia.
While the CollaborationKit extension is largely complete as a
functioning prototype, it has yet to be deployed to the target wiki, the
English Wikipedia (while technically in production, at present it's only
enabled on testwiki). Subsequent to that deployment, actual testing can
begin, and only then will it be possible to iterate on the extension's
layout and functionality to effectively address the needs and pitfalls
that come up in practice. Only then, too, will we be able to effectively
assess the overall project: how successful has WikiProject X, as both
IEG and Project Grant, been at meeting the outcomes originally
described? How effective is this kind of design and software project as
a whole? What can we learn, and how can others learn from this approach?
I would like to invite anyone interested in the project to check out the
new proposal, and to comment or ask any questions you might have:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Isarra/WikiProject_X
For more information on the original grant:

I liked the interview (link below) of Cindy Cicalese by Yaron Koren. I
learned
information about Enterprise MediaWiki and about government use of
MediaWiki that was new to me. Also, given Cindy's extensive experience
with MediaWiki, I'm glad that WMF hired her to be the product manager for
MediaWiki Core.
What's making you happy this week?
Pine <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Pine>
P.S. For those who are unfamiliar with the history of "What's making you
happy
this week?", I believe that the concept of these threads in the Wikimedia
ecosystem started in the *Wikipedia Weekly* Facebook group, and the concept
was copied from there to Wikimedia-l. I'm being bold by expanding the
distribution of this thread to Wikitech-l, which I hope will be accepted by
Wikitech-l subscribers since there are often mentions of technical
developments in these threads. If someone feels strongly that these threads
shouldn't be shared on Wikitech-l, they're welcome to email me (on list or
off
list) or comment on my talk page. I feel that technical contributors are
welcome to comment in these threads about what is making them happy
this week, and I hope that WIkitech-l subscribers will generally like the
concept.

Hi everyone,
I decided to start a podcast in which I interview developers and users from
the MediaWiki community - it's called "Between the Brackets". The first
episode was just published today - it's an interview with Cindy Cicalese,
who worked with MediaWiki for a long time at MITRE and is now the Product
Manager for the MediaWiki Platform at the Wikimedia Foundation.
Here it is:
http://betweenthebrackets.libsyn.com/
I hope you like it!
