www.wikipedia.org should:
[] not be changed at all.
[] redirect depending on the browser's language setting to the wikipedia in the prefered language.
[x] be a multilingual portal (1)
[x] other:This should be done only /after/ all languages are on the same database. IMO a static portal page is a very bad idea. We are a wiki and a static page is very unwiki. The frontend should also reflect the backend. Right now there are a bunch of separate Wikipedia wikis. At the /very/ least, all the current active language wikis should be upgraded to Phase III - then at least we will be interlinked with lanuguage links.

Just a reminder...
The French localization is ready to go, I can do a final upgrade to the new server and software whenever is convenient. (Anthere, Aoineko, vous êtes prêts ?)
Polish and Esperanto are still waiting on Unicode search fixes and X-system editing for eo. I will try to get these working soon.
Of the middle-tier somewhat active wikis (over 200 pages), Norwegian, Swedish, and Portuguese are still yet to have the new interface localized, and I'm loathe to convert them without doing so. However, of these only Swedish has the current UseMod interface localized; if someone asks to have the others moved soon and localized later, that's okay.
A number of languages are currently virtually unusable on the Latin-1-hardwired old server. (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Hebrew...) If anyone expresses interest I can set them up in Unicode on the new server; though there are presently problems with the search function, you can edit and link so it's better than nothing!

Please do that - I don't want to know how many possible contributors have been driven away by the broken encoding up to now.
Maybe I'll find the time to do some promotion for the arabic wikipedia.

Got the Chinese last night, I'll get the others of these four later today.

Cool!

Now that it's been established that this is a survey, not a decision vote, I'll join in and vote for the multilinguagl portal, among these choices. But I've already said that Neil's mixture of the two changes is a good idea. *And* I agree with mav that it's more important to integrate the back end. OTOH, I disagree with mav's claim that an integrated front end is useless until the back end is integrated -- it's just *less* useful IMO.
