Hi,
I had raised this issue before on this list. We can now confirm that
several major ISPs in Iran have blocked the Kurdish Wikipedia
(ku.wikipedia.org).
We are once again asking for advice on this issue. Are there any
experiences in how to deal with such an issue?
Thanks in advance,
Erdal

If you read Brion's message carefully, you will realize that the concept
of stable versions he refers to in the present system are commonly
called "protected pages". I trust you have heard of those.

Hi,
There is currently an approved request to set up a Wikipedia in
Vlax Romany, the main language of the Roma people, which is
mainly spoken by Romanian Roma but also throughout the world.
Now, this isn't yet a request to set up the Vlax Romany Wikipedia,
since the interface still needs to be translated and a few more
administrative things to be done. However, the main Romany contributor,
Desiphral, has already written more than 10 quite long articles on the
Vlax Romany test wiki, at:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Test-wp/rmy/
Now, the main reason I have written here - I talked to him and he said
that he would like to contribute in both scripts - Latin and Devangari.
Romany is an Indo-Aryan language, and while it is mostly written in
Latin script, some people, especially outside of Europe, write it in
Devangari script, which they say represents the language better and
links it culturally to its related languages, Hindi, Sanskrit, etc.
Desiphral himself said that he communicated with Roma throughout
the world in Devangari, and has already written some articles to Test-wiki,
in both Latin script and Devangari.
So, what I'm wondering here is: would it be possible to set up an
automatic conversion system to serve up Devangari and Latin versions of the
same article? For example, if a user writes in Latin script, can that be
converted
automatically to Devangari to be read by someone who's specified Devangari
as their nominated script in Preferences, and vice versa?
The conversion is very consistent in that each Devangari
symbol represents the one and the same letter or diphthong in the Latin
Romany alphabet.
Thanks,
Ronline
The equivalent of $9,551.60 was donated on the first day of the fund drive. Thanks to Brion
Vibber, our Chief Technical Officer, we have a near real time donation tracking page at:

The Detail page for each day of the drive has individual entries for anybody who donates through
PayPal. You can see the amount donated, their name (if they gave permission for that) and a
comment. I encourage everybody to read those comments.

At this point, the best solution is for people to tag things or delete
things to save the darn images. This requires no modification to the
mediawiki software, nor does it carry with it the naming or storage
implications of a full undeletion system... plus, it is available
right *now*.
Your language shows the sort of disrespect common from those who are
unconcerned about the legal status of our project. There is no rabid
frenzy to delete the image, rather, the deletions are going
unacceptably slowly.
There have been multiple responsible users, who ensured the images
they deleted or tagged were unrecoverable, who have been chased away
from the image cleanup process by user overwhelmed with anger,
distrust, and disrespect.
As such I have no hesitation in saying that the unrecoverability of
the few incorrectly deleted images is entirely the fault of the people
who attack people for cleaning up images. Good job.
