I realize that you are in support of a new logo and not trying to stick to
the old one, but I think we should know something potentially controversial
about the old, and therefore why it should be disused.
a) InterpretationThe quote is open to many interpretations in addition to
that of the original author (that which The Cunctator revealed). Both Erik
and I misinterpreted it. I will not claim that people like us are literature
buffs, but our English ain't dat non-standard either, i.e., not that
different from yours, I assume. (Unless of course, you live a secret life as
the Queen or 007.) So the probability of a variant interpretation is high
for many native speakers without a graduate degree as well. (There are some
smarts and dum-dums across that boundary. But that's another story.)
I will not blame it on the literary style it uses, but it is just not modern
(21st-century) common English.
b) Viewpoint
Moreover, having the quote as our logo seems a tad like a statement of
support of Hobbes' political viewpoints, even though this particular quote
does not have noticeable political flavour. His avid support for authority
doesn't sit well with our collaborative spirit of Wikipedia.

Never mind me.
It only shows in Hotmail to subscribers. Great, now I can starting stalk

Stephen, your email address is showing, probably because of the lack of
names in your emailbox settings. I thought if you dislike spam like me, you
might like to know that.

>From the wikipedians by arrival page
/In other words, we Wikipedians abhor the idea that the amount of time
spent working on this website is any sort of indication of how well one
can write an encyclopedia article. Indeed, we distinguish ourselves by
our ability to write good articles, which is what /really/ matters. We
ought to do our best to underemphasize seniority, which can be used,
often illegitimately, as a way of deciding who to accord how much respect./
First, Wikipedians on the Chinese WP would like to thank all who supported
the presence of Chinese-speaking administrators.
The admins have a question:
We thought as an admin, one can revert vandalism much more quickly, with a
click of a button or two. But we found no such a thing, and still have to
revert by the old way, i.e., History -> click on old version -> edit ->
save.
I once heard mav said, as an admin, that he can revert in 5 seconds or
something, but the four-step way takes _at least_ 15 seconds, assuming you
have cable and WP isn't slowed down.
Thanks for answering.

They return because they have become emotionally invested in Wikipedia.
This is an inverse of the attachment that happens to our regulars; it
is destructive rather than constructive. Wikipedia has a history of
making persistant troublemakers into "super-villians" with infamous
reputations.

No, those people have used up any grace they've been extended.
The problem is that IP bans do not work on anyone with a strong
attachment to Wikipedia and a tiny amount of technical knowledge.

/I have wondered why is it that profilically obsessive vandals, like M and L,
can return again, again, and again, and so on for a dozen time or something
like that with split personalities (sometimes with inverted sex...). Some
admin gave up, some persisted. And the vandals repeatedly defaced some
admins' page personally.
For those vandals, are they still given a certain amount of time in hope of
their possible reforms? If not, how come their split personalities are
still so prolific and continue for at least a while before they stop
(presumably banned, for then)?
If their IP is banned. Don't they have to switch to another computer?

Can a sysop please move the russian wiki sandbox from the name:
Wiki Sandbox
to
RuWikipedia:Sandbox (Or something like that)
Also, I noticed many int'l pages aren't [[Wikipedia:Blah Blah]] they're
just [[Blah Blah]]
so maybe these pages should be converted to RuWikipedia or PolWikipedia
or NedWikipedia FrWikipedia, etc.
Am I posting this on the right list?
I posted a request earlier, and nobody replied
The thing is that I'd /love/ to help wikipedia in the way that sysops
can, but I never can, and if you look at my personal user contributions,
you'll see I'm not a vandal, rather a helper in all categories
