Hi everyone,

Thank you for reminding us about this.

As am not conversant with what this would cost us, I would suggest that one of you gives me the figure plus a break down of what it shall cover so that it can be added onto our start up grant proposal on META

regards,
stephen

Ah!

Thanks, Manuel, for the detailed and clear explanation!  I really appreciate it.  Now that you reminded me, I do remember the Kenic problem.  So, by all means, let Wikimedia Kenya take care of this.  I suggest that WMKE add a budget item for, say, a five-year extension of the domain name, to the grant request[1].

Cheers,

Registrant, Admin-C, Tech-C and Billing-C is David Mugo.

The domain points to my (Master's SYSTEMS) nameservers which hold the
domain's authoritative zone.

I have transfered the money for the domain fee via Paypal to David and
got reimbursed by Wikimedia CH after I received the invoice from David.

So the invoice from the registry was issued to David and he also made
the payment to them, while the money was finally paid by WMCH.

If that would have been possible I'd have done it through my company in
the first place as I hold most of the European Wikimedia domain names.

We have to go through David / Wikimedia Kenya as KENIC only accepts
entities based in Kenya as contacts.

Apart from that I strongly support chapters dealing with their domains
on their own as far as they are capable of doing so. That's why I deal
with most of that stuff. Managing domains through WMF is a pain in the
neck and I have seen several domains being lost / stolen from WMF for
various reasons. While this may have improved since Rob is dealing with
this I know that still some domains are owned by WMF but registered with
several registrars WMF doesn't know how to manage them.
