Ireland's Internet Day - An evening with the founder of Wikipedia

To celebrate Ireland’s third annual Internet Day, the IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the company that manages and maintains Ireland’s country domain name, .ie, will host an evening with Wikipedia founder, Jimmy Wales. Wiki Loves Monuments 2017

As many of you will have seen, Ireland’s Wiki Loves Monuments was launched at Archaeo Fest as part of Heritage Week. This year Ireland’s monuments can be viewed through Monumental, as all of our data is now on Wikidata! You can search by county, see what monuments have no photo, or if they have an article. Do spread the word to your photography friends and family. You can find all the information at www.wikilovesmonuments.ie

Editing events in TOG Hackerspace

We held our first open editing event at TOG on 30 August. Some serious editing got done, and not just in English! We are hoping to make this a regular event, so do sign up on the TOG Meetup page, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter.

Digital Repository of Ireland

On Tuesday 5 September, we had our first joint event with the DRI in the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin. The workshop looked at Creative Commons and Public Domain licencing, in particular for those who work in cultural institutions. It also covered issues around Orphan Works, and the new EU Directive on Copyright. The next event with the DRI will be in October, and will focus on how cultural institutions can collaborate with Wikipedia and its sister projects.
