I'm sorry in advance for not being able to write this in Portuguese. My name is Sam, and I work on the Communications team at the Wikimedia Foundation. It's very nice to 'meet' you all!
We recently received an interview request from a journalist at Folha de S. Paulo who'd like to speak to someone about the Encyclopedia of Diderot and D'Alembert translation project underway by the University of São Paulo State in Brazil. Specifically, she'd like to speak to someone in the community about this encyclopedia's relation to Wikipedia.
Here are some of the questions she'd like to ask:
How would you describe Wikipedia and its role in society today?
Do you see similarities between Wikipedia and other projects of Enciclopedias, like Britannica, Barsa or even the Diderot and D'Alembert's Enciclopedia?
Do you feel, or think, that Wikipedia has a political role?
We wanted to reach out to this group to see if anyone would be interested in speaking with the reporter about this project. We'd be happy to provide any support needed in the interview process including media tips, talking points, etc.
As of now we can only connect the journalist with one participant, but we'll be sure to reach out to this group should another interview opportunity come along. Feel free to respond to this thread or me directly if you have further questions or are interested in taking this opportunity.
