Definitely a cultural thing -I still don't understand why someone can feel intimidated or harassed by that e-mail....I'd better not go into details because it can be understood as I'm attacking an ethnic/linguistic group of wikimedians :-)

While in general that is the goal (private emails staying private) I would
say that in a case like this, no, you have no expectation of privacy when
you go 'off list' to, in my opinion, harass and intimidate someone about
what they did on the list. I think Nathan was completely reasonable to
bring it back on list and that MZs comment is completely correct. It's like
'taking it outside' of a bar to have a fight, the bar is completely
reasonable in banning you for it and it's still illegal.
Rupert's email was completely unacceptable and I'm glad Nathan brought it
to our attention rather then either getting into a prolonged off-list
debate that helps no one or letting it lie so that no one else was aware of
the attacks.

Hi all,
It probably means nothing, but the other day I noticed that the Executive
Director post had been removed from the Job Openings page on the WMF wiki (
https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Job_openings#Office_of_the_Executive_D…)
and was curious. Has there been an update on the search for the new ED, has
Sue decided to stay or was it all just a coincidence and nothing has
changed? :)

exhibition[editar<https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikimedia_chapters/Reports/Wik…>
]
As we did the last year, we organized an exhibition of the ten winner
photographs of Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in Mexico. The images were printed
out in big format and the exhibition room was donated by our partners of
the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the National Autonomous
University of Mexico. In the inauguration attended the principal of
faculty, some winners of the contest and WMMX board members and volunteers.
The exhibition was there till March 15th, and in the next months it will
start a tour inside Mexico city and around other cities of this country.
Wikipedia Education Program in
Mexico[editar<https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikimedia_chapters/Reports/Wik…>
]
Since last year we launcher a pilot education program with some
universities of Mexico in which we are teaching how to use Wikipedia in the
classroom, how to edit it and evaluation techniques. So far, we have
implemented this program in:
- Facultad de Estudios Superiores Aragón de la UNAM.
- Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la UNAM.
- Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, campus Iztapalapa.
- Universidad de las Américas Puebla.
Now, we are on talks with Wikimedia Argentina to interchange experiences in
this field and create a sort of syllabus to standardize the contents and
teachings of this program. Besides we are introducing the use of the
education program extension to measure the successful of these efforts.

]
This year we started a new project which consist in a monthly Wikipedia
workshop. The point is to have a regular activity in fixed dates and place
to announce it permanent activity and allow people to attend, learn how to
edit Wikipedia and know some mexican wikipedists. This workshop will be
give independently of the number of new people that assist because it will
be used also as permanent meeting of volunteers for teaching each other
their own experiences in Wikimedia projects.

Before we start thinking about the implications for WiR in general or WMF's relationship with Stanton, I think we should focus on establishing the facts of what happened here. After we have a good understanding of the facts we can discuss the implications.
I'm still waiting for Arbcom to get back to me before I comment more extensively. I'm guessing that they may take awhile if they need to establish consensus among themselves before responding.

I submitted the proposal to be able to eliminate certain parts of the
articles in certain countries, where the local governments find those
parts illegal: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62231
But it got rejected, and I am not sure I am clear why.
The problem is that there are countries that lack the freedom of speech
(most of the countries), and some of them get very aggressive about
banning materials that most reasonable people wouldn't find
objectionable. The very recent example, provided in the bug report
above, is banning of any references of Adolf Hitler's book "Mein Kampf"
in Russia. While this case may seem not as important, but I don't see
why users outside Russia should be affected by such decision, when they
may not even support any decisions or values of the said government.
Yet, everybody's version of wikipedia page is affected, and materials
are hidden.
My suggestion, if implemented, would allow to hide certain parts of the
articles in the country (or area) of jurisdiction of the corresponding
court, while allowing users not living there to still see the original
version.
If such governments get their way in banning materials globally, this
will effectively make wikipedia biased, and reflecting various POVs of
various courts, which has never been intended by wikipedia.
