Dear all,
>From June 8, Wikimedia Mexico will co-produce "Möebius" a weekly radio
program in Ibero 90.9 FM [1], one of the trendsetter media in Mexico City. The
creative concept of the program is to find two topics allegedly disconnected
, but united by four or five Wikipedia articles, with a sound design that will
reinforce the concept.
It has been several months of planning the concept, which will serve to
further spread our mission in Mexico, thanks our GLAM partnering with the
Universidad Iberoamericana and their radio station, Ibero 90.9 FM.
This program will be conducted by Almendra Hernández, Carmen Alcázar and me. We
will upload the audios for those wishing to listen to them, so you can practice
your Spanish :)
Best regards.

Dear all,
I am happy to inform you that the Affiliations Committee has approved the
recognition of a Wikimedia User Group today: Wikimedians of Nepal.
Please join me in welcoming this new group into the fold of Wikimedia
entities, and let's celebrate their success and hard work as Wikipedia
turns eleven in Nepal!
== Wikimedians of Nepal ==
Wikimedians of Nepal <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Nepal> is a
group of enthusiastic Nepali Wikimedians working towards developing and
promoting Wikimedia projects in Nepal. They've been actively working to
help expand the community, launch projects in more languages of Nepal and
promote and support the existing ones.
The group is working towards chapterhood, and have a good chance of
attaining that status this year. Granting them user group recognition
allows the movement to express its appreciation for their hard work even
while they are working on the bureaucratic aspects of meeting the
requirements of chapterhood. The timing is fortuitous in that the group is
going to mark the 11th anniversary of Wikipedia in a Nepali language on 3
June, next Monday.
Ganesh, the group's interim president has been invited to this year's Milan
conference, where he gave a comprehensive overview of the group's history,
its projects (including a successful 'wikiwomen" programme) and its
ambitions. The slides are at:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/WMNepal_WMC_2013.pdf
The Affiliations Committee's
recognition<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliations_Committee/Resolutions/Wikimedia…>is
valid until 28 May 2014, or until they are recognized as a chapter.
== Wikimedia User Groups ==
Wikimedia User Groups are one of the three new types of affiliations
created last year to empower volunteers wanting to conduct offline work and
provide them recognition from the Wikimedia movement.
User group status is meant to be an easy form of affiliation, where the
main requirements are an agreed goal, plans for offline work, at least
three people participating and a public wiki page with all the relevant
information).
Under the movement roles
recommendations<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_affiliation_models/User_Groups>
, user groups are to be recognized in a quick and easy process directly by
the Affiliations Committee, for a fixed, renewable time-period and they are
to enjoy limited trademark use and simplified access to grants.
Best regards,
Bence Damokos
Chair, Affiliatons Committee
The Election Committee regrets to advise that it is necessary to delay
the start of voting in the WMF Elections 2013 for one week. This delay
is being implemented for three reasons:
* We have been unable to verify that the list of eligible voters is
complete and that all voters meet the published criteria
* We have been unable to verify that the SecurePoll setups for the
election are properly functioning
* The voter interfaces have not been translated and are not currently
available in any language other than English, thus disadvantaging
Wikimedians who do not read English.
The following changes are now made to the Election timeline:
*8-22 June 2013: elections
*23-25 June 2013: vote-checking
*25-28 June: publication of results.
For the Election Committee,
KTC

I just started a page to globally list these library/wikimedia events &
projects on the outreach wiki... still *very* much under construction so
please help out!

Hi all,
There's currently a proposal on the internal mailing list to close it, as well as the internal wiki. Although I don't disagree with closing the internal-l mailing list (it's definitely served its time), I would like us to collectively reconsider using the internal wiki.
There is information within the Wikimedia movement that can't be shared publicly. Some of that information has been shared on the internal wiki, but much has been kept confidential within the various Wikimedia organisations that now exist. I think there's a lot of benefit to sharing more of that information in a confidential fashion on an internal wiki, and that we should start doing that much more than we're currently doing.
Some examples of what I mean here are:
# Agreements, particularly those with global impact, and/or where they affect more than one Wikimedia organisation. Part of the recent Monmouthpedia/Gibraltarpedia situation was caused by a lack of transparency about who had signed what agreements, and when they had been signed - if these had all been shared on an internal wiki then some of this could have been avoided. There's also a lot of experience now with existing agreements that could be reused when new agreements are being written, e.g. for Wikimedians in Residences. Sadly, not all of these can be made publicly available (or at least, they haven't been to date).
# Press releases. When there's an upcoming significant press release from a Wikimedia organisation, then it should be good practice to share it with the other movement partners prior to its release, so that they are aware of it, can provide feedback, and can plan around it. Some of this already happens on wmfcc-l, but not consistently - much more could be done here.
# Domain names. There is a list of these on internal already, which is actually being maintained by some people. Tackling squatted domain names and keeping track of who owns what is a global problem that should be done collaboratively, but in confidence, rather than just by individual organisations.
# Contact information for the various organisations. Some of this can be done publicly, but not all, and it would be good to have a central place for this information anyway.
# Notices of sensitive activities. E.g. if there's an upcoming risk of law suits, infrastructure difficulties within organisations, etc. then it would be good to be able to share these and ask for help without publishing them to the world at the same time. That doesn't need a mailing list - it can be done on a wiki.
# … and I'm sure there's more examples that can go here, this isn't trying to be a complete list!
So, rather than close the internal wiki, I'd like to propose a radical redesign and repurposing of it. Is there the interest and willingness in the WMF and the chapters to share such information with each other?
Thanks,
Mike
(Note: this is a personal viewpoint, not necessarily that of WMUK.)

There is a longstanding proposal to create simple language Wikipedias
in languages other than English and France, but it remains to be seen
whether it is compatible with the current narrowing focus austerity
regime.
